What causes pain?
The cancer itself doesn’t hurt. It may be the cause of pain if it presses on the nerves or on the bone. Also, pain occurs when blood vessels are blocked by the cancer. Usually the pain occurs in patients in advanced stages of the disease. Another cause of pain is the treatment of cancer itself: radiation therapy, chemotherapy, surgery. But you need to remember that not all patients respond the same to treatment. If a patient has pain as a result of chemotherapy, it doesn’t mean that other patients will have the same reaction.
